... My Modern Pinup Philosophy:

Have you ever been so fascinated by something that you were driven to embody it? I have. Have you imagined what it might be like to go back in time to experience another life in a different place? I do. In my mind, the 1940s and 50s are both inspiring and entrancing. My fascination with this era started in my grandmother’s wardrobe and my grandfather’s musical journey as a swing musician, and it’s led me here - as a retro chick singer who performs in reproduction clothing and who sometimes even goes to the supermarket in victory rolls, a bandana and a swing skirt. Although gender roles have changed quite a bit for the better, and we have the benefits of modern medicine and let’s face it – the internet – there’s something so entirely beautiful about that era.
To me, there’s nothing more beautiful than the elegant sultriness of an old school pinup girl. But the love of all things Pinup goes much deeper for me. Call me crazy – and I’m sure some do – but I love vintage fashion and lifestyle for its classiness and timelessness. I want to remember a time when curves were celebrated and pocket computers didn’t run our minds. When socializing was done in real time, face-to-face, and live music was everyone's "youtube stream." I would love to see a modern pinup movement where women celebrate themselves for who they are regardless of size or shape, look to their ancestors for inspiration, and then make it their own.

For me – the pinup brand is more than a “look” or a “costume” – it is a remembrance of those who came before me, and it is a celebration of self. I am mesmerized by so many aspects of the modern rockabilly movement, that I want to share it with everyone I know. And so, without further ado……
Welcome to Memoirs of a Pinup Girl. This is my space for exploring all things vintage and specifically, the 1940s and 50s. In a bi-monthly blog/vlog format, I will team up with experts or just roll up my own sleeves and bring you all sorts of vintage treasures. A few of them will be for gals- hair and makeup tutorials and a glimpse into the creative process of a world renowned pinup designer (I can't wait for that one).. I'm also going to cater to the guys on a few. I've got an expert bar tender in line to create for us a vintage pinup inspired cocktail, and we can't forget the hotrods!!!!! I've got some car guys on deck too. Soooo..... Who's with me? Is there anything "vintage" you've just always wanted to know about? Taking requests, and I hope you join me on my adventures!!!! Xo ~ Morgen
